I finally have some cards to show you out of the Tarot Deck I've been making (Complete list of Cards and Characters):




10. Carson - The Wheel of Fortune



10. The Wheel of Fortune: this is the card of fate and karma. This reminds us that we have very little control as to what life might throw at us. So, with no guarantees of what the future will hold, invest in the present and hope you can create your own luck and the wheel will spin in your favour.

I chose this card for Carson, because I think, in his line of work, regardless of how much he tries, sometimes fate has another idea.


12. John - The Hanged Man



12. The Hanged Man: this card is an opportunity for you to look at life through a different perspective; it can mean some sort of self-sacrifice.

I chose this card for John because of his tendency towards self-sacrifice (and because I thought he'd look pretty hanging like that)


14. Teyla - The Temperance



14. Temperance: with this card you stand with one foot firmly on the ground and one foot in the water. This represents your actions in the world and your emotions. It’s a question of mixing and blending the two. It’s also a holiday card and one that encourages you to experience different cultures.

Teyla is one of the most centered characters in this show, even though she stands as a bridge between the Lanteans and the people of Pegasus.


18. Sora - The Moon



18. The Moon: things look very different under moonlight; they can be a bit scary. This is the card of illusions and delusions; your emotions will come to the surface and you will need an outlet for them. Our dreams and intuition may become stronger; if you embrace and understand them you will become stronger.

I chose this card for Sora because she is both deceiving and ruled by her emotions. Notice how she shows one hand while hiding the other.

I've never heard of people having cards... how does that work exactly? For my SGA tarot deck I assign them according to the character traits and aesthetic beauty... is it something like that?

Mostly, though, I want to see Rodney as The Magician.

I'm breaking my head over that one, because Rodney is my favorite character and John turned out so cool... Rodney has to look *better*

Wow--beautiful! I like your choices of card for each character. Now I'm wondering--Rodney? Ronon? Elizabeth? (I see her as the High Priestess, perhaps--hidden wisdom, but not fertile enough to be the Empress.)

I have already chosen the characters for each card (although these are not final until I draw the card) here.

And Elizabeth actually is the empress, she'd not so fertile, but she is wise and she takes care of (manipulates) all her children.

I try to make the cards fit, but sometimes it is difficult, because there are a limited number of cards an characters... and even though TV shows are sort of cliches and the characters archetypes that fit with the deck... in the end sometimes you end up with imperfect fits.

I agonized over Carson, and then I saw the description for the Wheel od Fortune and it clicked.

I love Tart decks, especially making them with characters of different series or books. It is a good way to analyze the characters, since they certainly fit with one card or another.

I love the color usage. Some of these are just beautiful, and great job in assignments (Carson's a little hazy, but he's kind of hard to place so it's all good).

Carson was hard to place, since he's so sweet, but in the end I decided to put him there, as there was no-one else I could have used. But I think it worked out in the end.

:D I'm glad you recognized my mutant Stargate! I tried to draw it with the chevron-lock-clasps-things (do they have a cannon name?) but it looked strange...

Even though I had a difficult time placing Carson to a card, after it was done, there was really nowhere else he would have fit better.

Actually, yes, I'm doing a whole deck... but it might take a while to be finished as I want it to be as nice as possible. It all started with a doodle I drew here, and now it has mutated into a whole project.

Because then I'm gonna print 'em out, laminate 'em, and then use 'em instead of my regular deck for awhile.

Beautiful cards, the meanings are spot-on! :)

The Hanged Man is a particularly interesting card, no? :) The Man who has seen the truth of the Magician's power, and is turned inside-out by the un-reality of the world around us, completely unable to set himself free any longer. The power of the minor arcana, though known to him, slips completely through his fingers like sand. Thankfully, in divination it's not so bleak (good for John! :). But if any character on Atlantis were to be the "Hanged Man", I would pick him.

I am absolutely stunned with the beauty of the Wheel of Fortune card. It is spot-on, absolutely awesome! It gives me chills to look at it. Teyla as Temperance and Sora as The Moon are both spot-on as well.

I can't wait for more cards! :)

:D Thank you for the wonderful description of the cards! I am not very knowledgeable in the ways of the Tarot, although I have always loved the beautiful designs of the cards.

Strangely, I have come to realize that the characters of almost any series and book can be cast using the different cards to represent them. It gives interesting insights to both the characters and the cards.
