After I read
synecdochic's Recovering the Satellites my interest in Sam and Cameron as a couple was peaked. The result? Fanart... actually a lot of fanart:

My reaction to the fanfic was something like this: "O shinny! I want to draw thee scene where they kiss in the hanger! And Sam's feet on the dashboard... and the cave scene!" And I after I drew those, I realized I might as well draw the other two scenes and have a whole set. This is the first time I have ever drawn either of them.

This picture is defined by P.W.P.(Perspective? What Perspective?). Clearly showing that I have no idea what cars look like from the inside.

This is the last one I drew, it is actually the one where I think they look the least like Cam and Sam.

The shirt Cam is wearing is actually my brother's, he left it lying around and well, it got sort of immortalized. I like this one, they look so domestic. It is the moment just before he attacks her with the towel.

This is my favorite one. The 302 (henceforth know and the ship-from-hell) took forever to be drawn. And the not!Jonas staring were so much fun. Actually I think she looks the most like Sam in this one (and you only see the back of her head... figures).

And of course, the uber cute last scene with injured!Cam... I showed my brother the original pencil drawing and he thought Sam was actually Daniel... I guess I've forever warped his perception of my drawings with slash...
I tried to match Sam's hair with the years (she sort of alternates longish and shortish in the series) and did a terrible job of it...

Date: 2006-08-28 06:31 pm (UTC)The look on Cam's face in the last one just kills me.
I took the liberty to scratch his face, since you don't tell us how he broke his leg and I figured he fell down a cave cliff or something and is actually lucky he didn't break his neck. Cam is handing Sam his heart on a platter, and he can't even look her in the eye while doing it.
And her boots on the dash in the first one!
Actually, since I'm not a native English speaker I wasn't a 100% sure what a dashboard was... so I did a google image search and got this really strange picture of a crash dummy showing the negative mix of feet on the dashboard and an inflated airbag 0.0
Let's just say, Cam better watch his driving.
And his utter and complete joy in the fourth
Joyful!Cam came so naturally, I think it's his default setting. :D
I think I overcompensated(OMG I drew five!) because I never got around to draw you something for 'Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose' (I've just tried to listen to the podcast at work... *bad, bad idea* I still haven't been able to re-read it... it doesn't make me sad, exactly, but it does touch me and makes me all teary eyed and I look suspiciously like I'm *not* working...). Maybe I haven't drawn it because I don't feel confident in drawing older!balding!Rodney or giving your wonderful OC a physical appearance(hmmm... now I actually *do* want to draw them... have any pointers?).

For Freedom -- you don't have to draw anything, really! But if you want to, Harris is, in my head, a tall skinny (and I do mean tall and skinny -- think like 6'4" and 130 pounds) black kid with a mostly-shaved head and a mostly-serious expression -- he doesn't smile or laugh much, but when he does, it lights up his whole face. He tends to wear oversized baggy clothes, because he has trouble finding things that fit. :)

Date: 2006-08-28 08:16 pm (UTC)Are you an illustrator by trade?
That is the most flattering thing anyone has said to me in a long while. Actually, I'm not an illustrator by trade, I'm a self taught amateur illustrator, I just draw things for fun, for friends and for people whose work I admire. My style comes mostly from anime and manga.

I love these so much. Synecdochic's story was gorgeous in and by itself, but these just add that extra zing. Thank you so much. *gaze*

Date: 2006-08-29 02:42 pm (UTC)Synecdochic's story was the first Sam/Cam fanfic I ever read and it was sort of an eye-opener to all the *possibilities*...
It makes me happy that you think the drawings go well with the story.

Date: 2006-08-29 04:13 pm (UTC)I can't imagine how much work this must have been. So much background and perspective... Sam and Cam both look very cute, and I love how the uniforms and Sam's hair change over time.

Date: 2006-08-29 08:31 pm (UTC)I love painting the little details, it's what makes the setting come to life. (also if you draw details, the flat coloring doesn't show as much :P )
I tried to do both Sam's hair and the uniforms justice and spent a longish time looking through Gateworld images of the different seasons in order to orient myself. I'm glad you noticed!

Do you ever draw directly in Photoshop, without scanning a sketch first? It's one of the many things I haven't mastered, because I still have trouble drawing a straight line on the tablet. And I'm really curious about how other people work. Please feel free to tell me to stop pestering if I'm too nosy! ^^

It is absolutely no trouble, I actually enjoy exchanging information on technique with other artists :D

Date: 2006-09-02 09:08 am (UTC)It's still a lot easier and quicker to use than a mouse. It just feels a little different from a pen on paper, and sometimes I have trouble keeping the lines the same thickness, because the tablet is sensitive to pressure. Overall, it was a good idea to get it. Mine is pretty small, so it was less than 100$ and I got it as a christmas gift to myself :)

Date: 2006-09-06 07:57 pm (UTC)Also, I noticed the Art-exchange works a a sort of Secret Santa(As the due date is in December)... hmm... Secret Art Santa? Maybe I should make a community for that... add to both the Christmas and Art joy...

Date: 2006-09-06 03:06 am (UTC)I'm glad you like the details on the dashboard, I used a stock image as guidance, but it was cropped and there were no people in it, so the distorted perspective is all mine ;P
Thanks a lot!
