So, basically
svmadelyn's The Thirteen Challenge is the best idea ever and my brain is currently fried...
Siren!John

Not being a native speaker of English (it is actually my third language after Spanish and German) I have no idea what the difference between a siren and a mermaid is... in Spanish it is the same word, "sirena".
Is it just that Sirens from the Greek myth are *evil*? Or are there differences in appearance?
EDIT:
rokeon was kind enough to explain that Greek Sirens had the bodies of birds and the heads or faces of women. So this is more of Mermaid!John or Modern!Siren!John (I also have the suspicion that had I tried to make John into a traditional Greek siren, he would have looked something like a chicken or possibly a chocobo, with his hair)

Date: 2006-04-14 05:16 am (UTC)... I just imagined John with feathers on his head...
But weren't the bird-like things harpies or banshees? (I'm *so* mixing my mythology here)
...the little shell necklace is just perfect.
They're his shell-tags.

Date: 2006-04-14 05:21 am (UTC)I wrote that, once. It just fits too well.
The myths got blended- harpies were originally women with wings, they didn't become bird-monsters until later. The sirens were bird-women (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Ulysses_and_the_Sirens.jpg) first.
shell-tags
