To indulge my Teen Wolf obsession, I am going to Wolf's Bane from tomorrow and was wondering if any of you will be there? I am going by myself and it is a bit daunting.

The last time I went to a Con was Pegasus 2 Con (about 8 years ago?) and I had a great time and met some awesome people!

I will be wearing a red hoodie with a Triskelle on the back most of the time and answer to Anna (or Luna).

If someone is going and would like me to draw them some fanart and bring it there, let me know! I love to meet new people and I like to give people at Cons fanart (it makes for a great ice-breaker!).

Also, they just announced the parties in the evening are themed! "Hunters and the Hunted" and "Myths, Legends and Fairytales"! Anyone have some quick costume ideas from things I can find around the house? So far I think my option is modern Red Riding Hood.

Thanks to [personal profile] tarlanx, I rediscovered my fandom stocking today. (She tagged me when she posted it to the AO3 and I saw the notification).

I had totally forgotten about it and now there it is, full of fanish goodness just for me!

(Slight Trigger Warning for medical information bellow, but nothing too graphic)

I was rather sick in December-February, because my gallbladder decided to grow stones (I MADE STONES) and because I was a PhD Candidate in my last year, I kept getting misdiagnosed as having too much stress.

For those who don't know, I was living in Japan at the time and while I speak Japanese, medical Japanese was quite difficult for me, adding an extra layer of stress (I have never been as nervous as when I was trying to understand what operation they were actually going to perform on me in a foreign language).

Anyway, long story short, I was finally diagnosed, admitted to the hospital, hooked to an IV and did not eat anything for 3 days, then they gave me pass to get out of the hospital for 3 hours (with IV) to do my PhD defense (which I passed, the professors were rather intimidated by the IV, though), and came back to the hospital in the evening to have the operation to remove my gallbladder. ALL IN ONE DAY! YAY!

Now I am Dr. Luna, but I would not recommend having defense+surgery in one day.

Anyway, following [personal profile] cesperanza's example, I am trying to come back to LJ/DW, because Tumblr just doesn't carry the same sense of community, as she said, it feels like "fannish TV".

I am off to look at my stocking now! Thank you so much for all who sent something and sorry for the late reply.

Christmas Cards are coming along nicely.

I think I am about 50% done (hopefully all will be finished by this weekend).

Also, I signed up for [community profile] fandom_stocking. My stocking is here, in case someone wanted to leave something? :)
anna_luna: (panic!kiss)
I completely dropped the ball last year on Christmas cards.

If you signed up to get one from me last year (here or here), I will send you one this year. Please let me know if you updated your address.

Anyone else want a card?

Pick at least 2 of the following fandoms (I will pick one to draw) and comment with your address (comments are screened):

SGA (Team or McShep)
Harry Potter (Team or pairing)
Doctor Who 11 (Team)
Bandom (Panic or MCR Gen)
Teen Wolf (Team or pairing)

Leave a prompt if you want, but I might make up my own depending on time :P

Also, please tell me if there is a character/pairing that you really don't want.

I don't know if I will have time/energy to make unique cards for each, it depends on how many of you want cards.

I WILL BE GOOD THIS YEAR AND ACTUALLY SEND THESE.

So I have a tumblr? Maybe you'd like to follow me there?

http://nannaluna.tumblr.com/

Mostly I reblog Avengers right now, peppered with Teen Wolf, SGA and Doctor Who.

Links to my art are posted in tumblr, LJ and DW.

I have been stealthily following some of you guys when I found you there. :)

Now for something completely different, I just enjoyed some amazing tofu and I thought I might share this easy recipe with you guys.

Ingredients:
-A bowl of tofu cut in rectangles (about 2cmx2cmx1cm). I like rectangles because it means I can cut it inside the box it comes in (I don't know how tofu is sold anywhere else, so use your own discretion)
-1 table spoon of dijon mustard (I like the one with the seeds, but the one without should be fine too)
-1 table spoon of curry powder
-about 1/5 cup of soy sauce
-peper (as much as you like, I only put a little bit)

Preparation:
Mix everything except the tofu.
Put the tofu in a frying pan and pour the liquid on top. Wash out any remaining curry or mustard with a bit of water and pour too.
Let it marinate while you take a shower (shower is optional, about 10-15 minutes should be ok)
Cook on the low fire until almost all the liquid is gone, turn carefully with a spatula every now and then so the tofu is evenly covered in the sauce. Personally, I like to cook it until the tofu is a bit crispy, but you can stop while there is still liquid for a softer taste.

Let it cool down for a bit and enjoy!

An alternative to mustard is to use another kind of spice. My friend used to put 'death spice' in hers (actually we don't even know what the 'death spice' was, it was just this spicy yellow powder that another friend's sister brought back form Yemen and someone drew a scull and cross-bones on the lid).

What is your favorite way to eat tofu? As a person who loves meat but shouldn't eat it because of allergies, I am always looking for new ways to enjoy tofu.

I have been working really hard in order to become Dr. Anna Luna and hopefully I will achieve it by next year. Unfortunately this means I have been slacking in replies and art, but let me tell you about the things that have made my day recently:

[livejournal.com profile] looking4tarzan sent me the most amazing notebook for my study. I LOVE IT WITH ALL MY HEART, IT IS AMAZING and every time I look at it I smile and remember when I went to England so many years ago and went to Pegasus 2 Con and met [livejournal.com profile] looking4tarzan and so many other amazing people. I am using it now to keep track of my experiments.

I used one of the robots in my laboratory as a model:

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON

1 more picture - KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON )

[livejournal.com profile] achih sent me delicious chocolates, a soap and a cream. IT IS REALLY GOOD! I LOVE IT AND MY SKIN IS AWESOME NOW.

I also received several virtual gifts! A birthday present from [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun. And [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun, [livejournal.com profile] fififolle and [livejournal.com profile] looking4tarzan also sent me snowman cookies! My profile page is so pretty now! THANK YOU!

YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST! I HOPE I CAN BE WORTHY OF ALL THIS AWESOMENESS!

Dear Friends,

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season. You are all amazing and everyday I marvel at your creativity and kindness. I hope for many more years of fanishness and fun here with you!

I cannot believe it has been so long since I last posted... Lets have some bullet points:

*I am back in Japan, working on my PhD. For updated news on japan ad the situation, I recommend checking out the NHK website in english. For updated information on radioactivity in my prefecture (and there is a sentence I never thought I would type...) I check the MEXT website. We seem to be doing ok. :/

*The summer has come and it is so hot OMG and because we are saving electricity, we cannot switch the air conditioners on as much as we'd like.

*I spent the other night avidly reading a Sid and Andy fanfic called Under the Table and Dreaming by [livejournal.com profile] snooter. Sid and Andy, for those who don't know, are the two boys from Toy Story. They both make appearances in Toy Story 3 (Andy going to college and Sid as the happy garbage man). Even if you are dubious about the pairing, or haven't seen Toy Story in forever, I recommend you go and read. The fanfic and its sequels are really amazing and follow them from when they were children to the rest of their lives. It is fluffy and sweet but also deals with two people who are very different but really love each other and the problems they face wth understanding themselves and each other.

*Then [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub decided the internet needed more Sid and Andy (NSFW pictures in the comments). :)

And because I couldn't stop thinking about it, I made fanart:

First of all, thank you so much for the well-wishes, it was wonderful to see how many people had us in their minds and hearts at his time.

Greetings from Toronto! Because of the uncertain situation in Japan, my family and I decided it was best for me to come home. There were no direct flights to Venezuela available, so at the moment I am at my friends house in Toronto and I think on Friday I continue to Caracas.

I live in Tsukuba, which is about 160 km from Fukushima (Tsukuba is north of Tokyo). We were having power and water rationing and stores were already sold out of food, toilet paper and the like by residents buying compulsively. Fortunately, there was little structural damage to Tsukuba-city and no danger of Tsunami.

Students were moved from the university dormitories to friend's houses if they could or shelters if they couldn't (the reason why is not 100% clear, maybe because they feared the structural integrity of the 40 year old dormitories or because water and electricity couldn't be guaranteed). So it is a strange mix of panic and business-as-usual as people go to work and laboratories resume their research, but people who can, go south or away. For instance, my laboratory friends from France and Netherlands are already on their way home and my Australian housemate is in Yokohama, and going home tomorrow. My Japanese neighbor who has a baby is going south to stay with her parents while her husband stays working in Tsukuba.

It feels weird to be going home like this. Narita Airport (Tokyo) was crowded and it was difficult to get tickets, as they didn't sell them at the ticket counter, but only through phone or internet reservation (thank God for my iPhone as the phone lines were full).

I only have my emergency bag that I packed on Saturday: 1 change of clothes, computer, passport, other documents, money, 2 coats and 3 sweaters, a roll of toilet paper, a towel, a roll of wide Scotch tape (you ever know when you might need to tape something), a swiss army knife and for some reason a lot of skin-care products I thought were essential in an emergency (???).

My housemate took some pictures:

Seven eleven runs out of products )

People lining up for water at a nearby park )

I hope I am over-reacting, and things will be controlled and back to normal soon and I can return home to Tsukuba, but as a student, March is a semi-vacation month as classes start in April, so it really has no big consequences for me academically even if I am away for a couple of weeks, and as my mother in Venezuela said "Since right now, it is wait-and-see, you can wait-and-see from here".

Lets hope for the best.

Dear wonderful people that sent me snowflakes:

THANK YOU! YOU ARE AWESOME AND ABSOLUTELY MADE MY DAY!

I was so happy to receive them, both form the name and anonymous people (on the one hand I would really like to know who you are, on the other hand, this means *anyone* could have sent it, which makes *everyone* a suspect which makes me grin and grin and grin at everyone).

On a somewhat but not completely unrelated note, [personal profile] bunnymcfoo is raising money to buy hoodies, socks, underwear, and gloves for the children of her local teen homeless shelter. If you have some money to spare, please send it there.

I can't actually send her money right now, BUT, I could donate some fanart. So, make a donation of at least 5$ and come back here and give me a prompt and I will draw it for you and send you the scan (you can choose to share it with the internet or not). Any of my usual fandoms.

Today is my Journal Birthday, 5 years ago on this day I created my LJ.

4 days ago, on the 16th, was my birthday and 4 days from now it will be Christmas... it has a sort of symetry :)

So, I am open to comments containing: congratulations, funny/sexy/cute pics, art, fic, recs... basically anything to commemorate this occasion!

I hope the next 5 years will be as filled with fun, prettiness, fic, art and all the things YOU all have contributed to make me feel happy and welcome in this community!

THANK YOU GUYS!

:(

My modem is broken and for some reason my computer doesn't recognize my portable hard drive... So while I have drawn and painted some more submissions for the Anna Luna Valentine's Day Trade Game, I won't be able to post them for a while.

I'm not accepting new trades for the game, but I will be finishing all the ones I promised.

If you said you were making something for me, but haven't gotten around to it, don't worry, take your time.

See you all soon, also, since I have no internet, please don't give me spoilers for new episodes.

Ok, so I knew the postal system was bad... I just never realized exactly *how* bad.

Number of cards received by me from my LJ friends (or, at all, I think maybe some RL friends might have sent something too): 0 (That's zero, nada, nothing, just an empty P.O. Box)

Number of cards received by friends I sent them to (I sent 11 to LJ friends): 5 8

I know [livejournal.com profile] prudentia, [livejournal.com profile] the4ts, [livejournal.com profile] tipsywitch, [livejournal.com profile] sally_maria and [livejournal.com profile] looking4tarzan got theirs. (EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] aesc, [livejournal.com profile] xenachan, [livejournal.com profile] zabira got their's as well :D )

Anyone else got it yet? Because I'm getting depressed, less than 25% of the cards made it to their intended destinations... Better now, more cards arrived!

The drawings on the cards: 1 McShep and 1 Team-as-cookies, G EDIT: NOW IN COLOR & ICON )

Also, could I persuade one of you to scan/photograph one of the cards? I seem to have misplaced the spare ones I made and only have the original b&w drawings. EDIT: Got the scans!

It has been two years since I made my very first SGA manip. This was my very first fanish involvement *ever*!

This year's statistics:

Fanart

Total art pieces: 94

Total manips and graphics: 18

Total drawings and paintings: 76

The above were for the following fandoms:

SGA: 83 Links )

SG-1: 1 Links )

due South: 4 Links )

Doctor Who: 2 Links )

Thoughtcrimes: 4 Links )

Fanfic

I wrote exactly one fanfic this year: Rapunzel (SGA)

In conclusion

SGA is and remains my primary fandom. McShep is my predominant pairing with 61% of all SGA fanart and a 100% of my fic being about them :D.

2007 was a wonderful fanish year for me: I went to England for Pegasus 2 and had the opportunity to meet many wonderful fellow fans. I got to draw and manip and I like to think my technique has improved.

For the first time I wrote a fic and that makes me incredibly happy as writing is something I want to learn how to do properly and continue doing in the future.

I hope 2008 will bring me the same happiness 2007 did.

For the next two weeks I'm going to be in Florida with my family with sporadic(if at all) internet access.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. I'll see you all for New Year's!

Also, I mailed the cards! Hope they arrive well!
anna_luna: (Default)
I'm incredibly proud and happy today!

As many of you know, I'm Venezuelan. At the moment we are having a difficult political situation where society is divided into those who support the government and those who don't. This is not as clear cut as rich vs. poor (like out president would have you believe) as rich people have benefited from his regime and many poor people are disappointed as poverty in Venezuela has *increased* even though the price of the oil has *risen* because there are no adequate social programs aimed at sustainable development (Chavez's idea of support is giving money to those who support him and no one else).

I'm with the opposition and a member of the student movement that seeks to keep the president from carrying out his authoritarian agendas. We endorse peaceful civic disobedience, we march on the street, we give people pamphlets... and then we are attacked with teargas by the national guard, injured by the falling tear-gas bombs and the subsequents attempts at fleeing. (I twisted *both* my ankles in may).

As a rescue worker I have had to help many of my fellow students get to medical services.

BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!!!

WE WON THE REFERENDUM AND THE NEW CONSTITUTION THAT WOULD MAKE CHAVEZ ALL POWERFUL WAS REJECTED!!!

*does a happiness dance*

EDIT: I put some pictures of the student protesters in the comments.

Hey! just a quick note to let you all know that I'll be in Chile until the 20th of October. I'm visiting my father and my step brother is getting married.

I will be in Santiago till Saturday and then I'm of to Temuco and a farm near the *town* of Los Angeles.

So, sorry if I'm a) not around, b) not replying, c)not posting art I promised I'd do for you. I'm drawing (and making copious use of watercolors) I just won't be able to scan until I'm back.

I'll miss you all, I have a pen drive full of fic to comfort me. Leave me a note if you want to tell me something or if you think there is something I just must *see*.

Also, Chile is *cold* this time of the year... hopefully there will be skying in my future.

I got the scholarship to Japan!!!!!!!!!!

By this time next year I will be a student of Tsukuba University, Japan.

I have a smile on my face and it doesn't go away, it's stuck.

anna_luna: (Default)
I'm not dead, but it might seem as if I am for a while... I have applied for a scholarship to Japan and am working on my thesis and time is *really* getting away from me!

So I'm not properly keeping up with fandom, and not reading/watching nearly enough of the wonderful stuff I *know* is being posted!

I will try to keep all my fandom obligations (i.e. the stuff I said I would do for a number of you).

I can still be reached by leaving a comment to my posts or by e-mail.
